Research
In my Ph.D project I am using Mass Spectrometry Imaging to study the distribution of bio-molecules, such as phospholipids, on a single-cell level. The main focus on my research is to develop protocols for mass spectrometry imaging to study subcellular structures of single cells and also to study changes in cell membrane composition caused by different stimuli, such as overexpression of specific proteins. I am currently developing preparation protocols to be able to use a combination of different imaging technique that gives both structural and, targeted and non-targeted chemical information of our samples. Our samples consist of cells that have been transfected with a specific protein that has shown to cause major morphological changes in cells. These changes include protrusions of the cell membrane that are not observed in control cells.
